Wrestling is a very unique sport, although it is a team sport; 14 different weight classes are contested one on one in the center of the mat. There are no time-outs, no substitutions, and no one else to blame. It is hand-to-hand physical combat that relies on speed, skill, strength, endurance, and mental toughness. Each wrestling match winner earns points for their team. Wrestling at Waterford High School has been around since the beginning of the school in 2001. Today, wrestling is a co-ed sport that offers girls the chance to become a girl's state champion separate from the boys. The girls and boys train together, but mostly wrestle in their own competitions. Wrestling prepares you for life's failures and successes. It gives you the opportunity to develop a strong sense of purpose and work ethic by developing positive and productive habits. Wrestling also give you the opportunity to go to college to wrestle, and to wrestle both nationally and internationally.
